About
The Mociar reservation of secular oaks is the oldest forest in Romania, located close to Reghin city.
Mociar forest covers an area of 569 hectares, at an altitude of 400 meters and you will certainly see it if you are on your way to the Sovata resort. Passing by Nadășa village you will reach to a picturesque settlement stretched along the Mociar valley, surrounded by hills covered with grass plots.
The Mociar forest incorporates approximately 300 trees of age 650-720 years. One of the Mureș river branches springs from here, the creek with the same name. The fauna is typical to oak forest from hills area and includes: small and medium sized animals: rabbits, deers, wild boars and raptor birds species by day or night.
The forest was declared a natural reservation in the year 1932, to safeguard the secular oaks (Quercus robur), with a height of 15-20 meters, the diameter between 1,5-4 meters and a chaotic canopy cover with gnarled branches, dried to the edge.
The Mociar, Reghin reservation of the secular oaks is one of the most important attractions from Transylvania, and you should not miss it if you are nearby.
